Our non-traditional
handwriting program is simply out of this world! This group
incorporates the whole child, addressing all systems involved with
good writing skills – posture, attention, motor planning, and visual
motor skills just to name a few! Through the use of dynamic gross
motor and sensory motor based activities, cutting edge modalities,
and the innovative planning of your clinician, your child will
remain motivated and engaged while working on increasing their
writing skills.
Don’t expect your
child to sit at a table and practice letter formations in this
group! Motor memory is built through increased sensory input, large
muscle movements and engaging in activities that children enjoy. By
taking a whole body approach, we will strengthen your child’s
visual, perceptual and motor skills which directly impact writing
abilities. The Talcott Center does not utilize one specific
handwriting program. Instead, we have pulled together what we feel
to be the most integral portions of current writing programs along
with published research, Talcott style, to make this group one of
our most dynamic programs out there!
Good handwriting
doesn't develop, however, by attending our program alone. Weekly home
carryover outside of the clinic is essential in developing skills.
That’s why your child will be provided with important skill building
activities to complete outside our center! But, don’t worry, we
will make them fun and exciting to keep them motivated!
