A child’s ability to engage in play activities with peers is often impacted by their ability to understand social cues and engage in socially appropriate play. Children also need to be able to plan and execute their body movements in order to effectively carryout play activities These skills impact a young child’s experience with play dates, birthday parties and other pre K activities. This group promotes both social and motor development through participation in a variety of play based activities and stresses successful peer interaction during each group session.  The play group is an occupational therapy facilitated group for children of all abilities. The group provides each child with an opportunity to practice emerging social skills such as parallel play, sharing, turn taking and following directions through participation in a variety of developmentally appropriate play activities.

Format:
Utilizing a multisensory approach – tactile, kinesthetic, visual and auditory –, children of all abilities will enjoy this therapist facilitated play group.
 
This structured group maintains an extremely low child to staff ratio (2:1) to provide each child with guidance and direction needed to promote success.
 
Population:
Children ages 2 1/2 – 3 years 11 months of all abilities are encouraged to attend.
