Pragmatics.

Articulation and phonology involve how we produce sounds and words.
The area of voice deals with how our voice sounds and the volume and pitch we use when we talk.

Stuttering is the hesitations and repetitions of sounds and/or words when we talk.

Expressive and receptive language is the way we talk to others or write our thoughts, and the comprehension of language, respectively.

Pragmatics involves looking at others when we talk, taking turns in conversation and maintaining appropriate interaction with others. People can be challenged by one or more of these areas.

People of all ages can be touched by a communication disorder.  There are also people who have a more involved challenge and have been diagnosed with more encompassing disorders, such as autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Every child who needs services whether for a minor or major issue should have options available.  For some children working individually is best, whereas for others a small group setting can be more beneficial.

At the Talcott Center for Child Development, both options are available with a recommendation that best suits your child’s needs.  Individual therapy is provided and tailored specifically to meet your child’s needs.  Small group sessions are also available.

Our current groups focus on stimulating and improving vocabulary, comprehension and verbal communication skills, getting your preschooler ready for kindergarten with a foundation of necessary skills, and a Speech-Occupational Therapy group which combines both language and motor skills.
