Immediate Press Release:
Brooker announces partnership bringing needed services to
NW corner.
The
Maria Seymour Brooker Memorial announces a partnership with the Talcott
Center for Child Development, LLC of Farmington, to open a satellite
treatment facility at Brooker, beginning December 1st. The
Talcott Center offers comprehensive physical, occupational and speech
therapy services for children, including assessments, intervention and
consultation. This pilot project of the Community Health portion of
Brooker Memorial comes after a careful study of area service needs for
children with special needs. Children of all ages who may have sensory
processing challenges, physical, occupational or speech therapy needs may
now be seen by appointment in Torrington. Of particular interest to area
families will be a well-equipped sensory room occupying the East Wing of
Brooker Memorial. In the past, families needed to travel out of town for
these services unless covered under a special education label in the
public schools. Sensory processing disorder, as a specialty, requires
more than weekly treatment to be effective, presenting hardships to NW
corner families.
To kick
off this new partnership, Brooker Memorial is presenting a free,
three-hour conference for area providers, teachers, child care centers and
pediatricians on October 25th, co-hosted and being presented at
Education Connection in Litchfield, on Sensory Processing Disorders. Five
slots are still available by contacting Jan Lyon, Director of Outreach and
Children Services at Brooker, 860-489-1328 ext 38. A session for parents
will be presented at a later date.
Brooker
Memorial’s mission is “to prepare children for life-long success through
education, health services, family support and programs of excellence.”
