Buddy Bunch KIDS

Buddy Bunch Kids provides an opportunity for young children experiencing pragmatic and motor planning deficits to practice social language skills and improve execution of motor planning within a play based occupational therapy group format. For children with pragmatic problems, communicating effectively in a social situation can be difficult and stressful. Following conversational rules such as taking turns, introducing and maintaining topics of conversation, making conversational repairs, and transitioning to new topics are major components of pragmatics. Other aspects of pragmatics include understanding and using nonverbal language appropriately such as eye contact, proximity and facial expressions. Motor planning is defined as the ability to plan and carry out motor actions in order to complete daily activities successfully. Children with motor planning deficits also often display decreased spatial awareness and may have a decreased ability to utilize all their senses to effectively participate in age appropriate play activities.

Specific areas which Buddy Bunch Kids addresses through structured play-based activities include taking turns, sharing materials, motor planning, utilizing all senses to participate in childhood games, improved body and spatial awareness, resolving conflicts, improving self confidence and celebrating success through play.
