The Buddy Bunch
For children and adolescents social
skill development may influence all aspects of their social
development including peer and family relationships, behavior, and
even academic performance. Social skills promote personal
responsibility and enhance coping skills.
Knowing what to say, how to make
good choices, and how to behave in difficult social situations are
crucial to a child’s social development. However, some children
experience great difficulty in developing and maintaining
relationships with parents, teachers, and peers. For others,
making friends, maintaining relationships with others, and
understanding rules of “fair play” may be of greater difficulty.
The Buddy Bunch is a unique social
skills group for children of varying ages in which structured play
and activities are tailored to the individual need of each child.
The facilitators will help group members develop a sense of group
connectedness and cooperation. Members of our group may demonstrate
impulsive and inattentive behaviors at school and at home. Our time
is devoted to helping students learn to get along with others,
follow the directions of a teacher, and solve problems in logical
ways. Our groups maintain a low staff to student ratio to ensure
appropriate modeling of behavior and immediate feedback. At the
Talcott Center we strive to promote generalization of learned social
skills to alternate settings such as the classroom, playground, and
home setting. For this reason, we encourage parent consultation in
order to help identify specific areas of concern.
