“A
whole new way to look at therapeutic activity!”
|
Move, explore,
grow and make exciting discoveries within The Talcott Center’s new
therapeutic play group. This enrichment based play group is developed and
guided by an occupational therapist. Each session is focused on providing a
nurturing and supportive environment where parent and child move together
through activities designed to provide each child with the “just right”
challenge so that success is always within reach. While children are
actively engaged in furthering developmental skills, parents are actively
learning about therapeutic activities and approaches that maximize their
child’s potential. Come join us in the fun and explore all the
possibilities of “play in progress”.

For a limited time, The
Talcott Center for Child Development is offering a therapeutic play group
for children 2 – 4 years old. The group will feature techniques used by
Talcott therapists and will feature movement, art, music and more.
Implemented by parents and with assistance from a Talcott OT, this format
will revolutionize the way we think of therapy.
Goals are discussed at the
beginning of the program and parents will have the opportunity to see
progress and understand the different aspects of the therapeutic activities
throughout each session.

As a parent or caregiver of a child with special needs, you can greatly
appreciate the magical milestones that occur during your playful
encounters with your child each day. These early developmental years are
the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Each child is hard at work in
their own process of discovery and mastery, driven by that which is fun
and rewarding. It is well-known that PLAY is the occupation of childhood.
Designed by pediatric occupational therapists (OT’s), “Play in Progress”
is a therapeutic play group that offers the opportunity for parents and
children to embark on the journey of discovery and mastery through play,
in a nurturing and supportive environment. Occupational therapists are
skilled in recognizing the strengths that each child possesses, as well as
the challenges he/she faces. With this in mind, the therapist is able
to
provide and teach parents how to provide each child with the “just right
challenge” so that success is always within reach, every step of the way.

Each “Play in Progress” session will incorporate fundamental skills and
areas of development that are the building blocks to physical,
social/emotional and intellectual well-being. Under the guidance of
an occupational therapist, parent/caregiver and child will engage in a
variety of activities that will facilitate progress in skill areas for
children, while parents learn the most effective therapeutic activities
and approaches that they carry-over into everyday lives. The following
skill areas will be incorporated into each session:
-
Gross motor skills
-
Fine motor skills
-
Social participation
-
Sensory processing
